Low Carb Diet

 

Phase 1 Intervention

 

Breakfast

1 protein meal serving

7-10 grams carbohydrate*

2 cups noncaloric fluid

Multivitamin and mineral supplement

Potassium supplement or added potassium

 

Optional Morning Snack

1/2 protein meal serving

5 grams carbohydrate

1 cup noncaloric fluid

 

Lunch

1 protein meal serving

7-10 grams carbohydrate *

2 cups noncaloric fluid

Potassium supplement or added potassium

 

Optional Afternoon or Bedtime Snack

1/2 protein meal serving

5 grams carbohydrate

1 cup noncaloric fluid

 

Dinner

1 protein meal serving

7-10 grams carbohydrate *

2 cups noncaloric fluid

You should reduce your carbohydrate intake per meal to grams if you choose to eat the optional snacks -- unless they contain zero carbohydrate. You may combine the contents of one snack with a meal or have wine with dinner; however, d onto allow the total carbohydrates content of any meal to exceed 12 grams or the total for the day to exceed 30 grams.

 

Phase 2 Intervention

15 grams carbohydrate*

1/2 protein meal serving

5 grams carbohydrate

1 cup noncaloric fluid

1 protein meal serving

15 grams carbohydrate *

2 cups noncaloric fluid

Potassium supplement or added potassium

 

Optional Afternoon or Bedtime Snack

1/2 protein meal serving

5 grams carbohydrate

1 cup noncaloric fluid

 

Dinner

1 protein meal serving

15 grams carbohydrate *

2 cups noncaloric fluid

You may combine the two snacks to make a single larger one if you do desire, you may drop them entirely, you may use them following the meals as a dessert, or you may add the snacks to any two of the other three meals to make them slightly larger meals. In no even should you allow your carbohydrate intake for any one meal or snack to exceed 20 grams or your daily total to exceed 55 grams.
